Biographies

Banquo Credit Management LLP was founded by Peter Luthy and Kevin Regan.

They were then joined by Managing Partners Mark Boylan, now Vice Chairman, Mark Goodman, William Mendenhall and by Chairman Alan Brown. The firm now comprises 25 investment professionals as members of the partnership together with an additional support staff.

Chairman & Vice Chairman

Alan Brown, is Chairman of Banquo Credit Management LLP. Alan has worked in commercial and investment banking for over 30 years during a varied career with Barclays Group. This included being Chief Executive in Japan (1990-1993), prior to his appointment as Group Credit Risk Director in 1993. In 1998 he became Vice Chairman of Barclays Capital, with responsibility for credit spread products and in 1999 was appointed Director, Group Risk, for the Barclays Group. He has been a senior technical advisor to ECGD and a non-executive member of the Barclays governance committees in the Americas and Asia Pacific. Alan graduated M.A. Hons. Oxford (Mathematics) and is an Associate of Chartered Institute of Bankers.

Mark Boylan

Mark Boylan, is Vice Chairman and Chief Client Officer. Previously he was a Managing Partner for five years. He has over 30 years experience in finance, the last 15 of which were spent in distribution of institutional products with UBS, Swiss Bank Corporation, and Bankers Trust. Mark's positions included Managing Director, Co-Head of Institutional Marketing for Europe, Middle East & Africa for SBC Brinson, Chairman of UBS Brinson Limited and Vice Chairman of UBS Global Asset Management UK Ltd, the result of the merger of UBS Brinson Limited with Phillips & Drew. He originally spent 15 years in industry in the Far East, including positions as head of corporate finance of The Hongkong Land Company and as Finance Director of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group. Mark holds an MA from University College London, an MBA from the Cranfield School of Management and an FCA: he is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, having qualified with Arthur Young and Co., now Ernst & Young.

Peter Luthy

Peter Luthy, Joint CEO and Chair of the Investment Committee, has worked in the fixed income market for 29 years. In 1990, he co-founded a credit focussed bond broker, Luthy Baillie Dowsett Pethick and Co. Limited (LBDP); shareholders included Deutsche Bank AG, Robert Fleming Limited and Swiss Bank Corporation. A European market pioneer in credit research and valuation, LBDP developed a credit-scoring model subscribed to by some of Europe's largest fixed income investors. Dresdner Kleinwort Benson acquired LBDP in 1996 where Peter became Global Head of Credit Products. Subsequently he was Global Head of Investment Banking at Barclays Capital and a consultant on bank credit portfolios.

Kevin Regan

Kevin Regan, is Joint CEO and oversees Investment Portfolio Trading. He has worked in the securities industry for 29 years. He has wide experience in the fixed income markets including trading, risk management, product innovation, origination and distribution. Kevin began his career at CSFB where he held positions in bond and money market trading in Europe and Asia. In 1984 he moved to Merrill Lynch to become Head of Money Markets in Europe and eventually Global Head of Eurobond Trading before running European corporate origination. Kevin moved to UBS in 1997 to Co-Head Global Fixed Income distribution and research. This position involved senior client relationship responsibilities for many of the world's major institutional investors. At UBS, he co-created, and was responsible for the team that developed and ran, CreditDelta. He was instrumental in the creation of the Euro MTN, preference share, global FRN and VRN markets.

Managing Partners

Mark Goodman

Mark Goodman, Chief Operating Officer and Chair of the Operating & Risk Committees, is responsible for all legal, IT, compliance, reporting and operational controls systems and regulatory reporting. Chair of the Operating Committee, he has broad experience of the fixed income markets gained over 16 years as a capital markets lawyer in transaction execution and product development followed by roles within origination, debt markets business strategy, executive management communications and investor marketing. He qualified as a solicitor with Linklaters and Paines, now Linklaters, before being appointed Head of Legal and Documentation at County Natwest. In 1988 Mark moved to Merrill Lynch to become Head of Legal and Documentation for Merrill Lynch Europe and subsequently held positions including those of Global Bond Product Manager and Head of Marketing and Product Development for Merrill Lynch Europe Debt Markets. He graduated with a BA and an MA in law from Cambridge University.

Bill Mendenhall

Bill Mendenhall, Head of Portfolio Strategy and Chair of the Credit Committee, is responsible for the credit research function at Banquo. He has 17 years of credit rating related experience. In 1987 he joined Moody's in New York, working first as a European bank analyst and then as a corporate analyst, as well as managing projects related to the build-out of Moody's international presence. In 1991 he joined Merrill Lynch as the first external hire for one of the first dedicated rating advisory groups on Wall Street. He successfully built and led Merrill Lynch's London-based Europe, Africa & Middle East Ratings Advisory Service from 1993 to 2004, where he advised corporations, financial institutions and governments in obtaining or defending ratings and on financial policy. As advisor to major companies in the region, he developed capital structure analysis, developing ratings-sensitive financial policies to offset cyclicality or event risk. Bill attended the University of Virginia and graduated with a BA in French and German and then completed a two year Business Administration course at the Ecole des Hautes Etrudes Commerciales (HEC) in France.
